How Does SSD TRIM Work After Deleting a File?
Posted by trentonhogan 1 days ago (https://notchox.com/resources/how-ssd-trim-works/)
Description: SSD TRIM works by communicating information about deleted data from the operating system to the solid-state drive. When you delete a file, the operating system marks its storage space as available and may send a TRIM command to the SSD. The drive controller uses this information to identify data that no longer needs to be preserved. During garbage collection, the SSD can consolidate valid data and erase blocks that are no longer required. This process helps improve write efficiency because flash memory cannot overwrite existing data in the same way as traditional hard drives. TRIM generally operates automatically on supported systems. However, once deleted data has been discarded by the SSD, recovering it may be extremely difficult or impossible.
